What actually makes you smile? It might point you towards your future career

In a recent video, Helen was asked to name five things that make her happy. Her answers were simple: time in green space, her dog, good friends, throwing a ball in her own particular way, and a very specific coffee order.

It's a lovely list, but it also holds a bigger lesson, especially for young people thinking about their future. Notice how personal and specific her answers were. None of them were vague or generic. They were things she had actually paid attention to in her own life.

That's exactly the skill we want young people to build at GGGE. Before you can choose a career path that suits you, you need to get curious about what genuinely brings you energy and joy, not just what sounds impressive or what everyone else is doing. Helen even found her own unconventional way of throwing a ball, because the "normal" way never quite worked for her. That's a useful metaphor for career paths too. Sometimes the route that works for you doesn't look like anyone else's.

Our upcoming film making competition is a first step into exactly this kind of exploration. It gives young people a real, hands on taste of a creative career path, a chance to notice what excites them, and the confidence to follow it, even if it doesn't look like the traditional route.
