Your Difference Is Your Edge: Why the World of Work Needs What Makes You Unique

When you leave school and start thinking about a career, it can feel like everyone else has it figured out. They seem to know what they want, how to get there and how to fit in. If you’ve always felt a bit different, that stage can be daunting. At Give Get Go Education, we want young people to know something important: the things that make you different are not something to hide from employers. They are often exactly what makes you stand out.

When “different” feels like a disadvantage

Many young people who didn’t thrive at school carry that experience into the next chapter. Maybe exams didn’t suit you, or the classroom never felt like your place. It’s easy to assume that means work won’t suit you either. But school is just one setting, and it rewards one narrow way of thinking. The world of work is far bigger, and it has room for every kind of mind. Young people who think differently are often brilliantly underestimated.

What Helen has learned about difference

Helen Kenworthy, co-founder of Give Get Go Education, has spent her career helping young people discover what they’re capable of. What she sees again and again is that confidence grows when young people stop trying to squeeze into someone else’s mould and start using their own strengths. A young person who notices details others miss, who imagines things in a new way or who sees problems from an unusual angle often has exactly what creative and modern workplaces are looking for. They just need the chance to see it for themselves.

How Give Get Go Education helps

Give Get Go Education is a careers training platform for young people who are ready to explore what comes next. We help young people build real skills, gain confidence and discover how their unique way of seeing the world can become a career. Whether you already have an idea of where you’re heading or you’re still figuring it out, we’ll help you take the next step with belief in yourself.

Of course you can

Your path doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. If you’re a young person thinking about your future, or you support one, we’d love to help you discover just how far your difference can take you.
