Where Is Your Happy Place?

No two young people picture their future the same way. Some know exactly what they want to do. Others have no idea, and the pressure to decide can feel overwhelming rather than exciting. That is the thread running through Helen's latest video, filmed on one of her walks with her dog.

She talks through a recent conversation with one of her students, someone who is usually easy going and full of jokes. On this occasion, something was clearly weighing on her, and it took a while, and a fair amount of trust, before she said what it was.

When "exciting" doesn't feel exciting

Her family had booked a half term holiday, the kind of thing most people would look forward to. For this student, it brought on anxiety instead. New surroundings, a broken routine, and the thought of meeting people who did not know her felt like too much to handle.

It is a useful reminder that we cannot assume what will feel exciting or manageable for someone else, whether that is a holiday, a new subject, or a step towards their future career.

Why this matters for young people planning their next move

That same idea applies directly to how Give Get Go Education approaches careers training. Thinking about the future, new environments, new skills, and unfamiliar situations, can be genuinely daunting for a lot of young people, not just exciting. Some need structure and small steps. Some need to build confidence before they can even picture themselves in a particular role.
